It must be nearly the holidays – there are lots of staff walking round doing a reasonable impression of Rudolph whilst boosting the share prices of Kleenex. All term staff are fine, they avoid all of the bugs that do the rounds but as the holidays approach the bugs spot the slightly tired demeanour of staff and make their move!
It seems unfair that you stand there in front of a variable number of children (depending upon how many have succumbed to latest bug) teaching for 6 weeks only for 30 smiling faces to look at you for the last few days of the half term, whilst you gradually wilt.
When people say, “You get all those holidays,” and teachers give the standard litany of jobs that they complete after school and during these numerous weeks of holiday they rarely mention that they are invariably ill for the first week of each of them. Perhaps it is co-incidence, perhaps the stress of a normal week of being in school actually keeps you healthy, whatever it is. It’s not fair!
